Ecommerce has been gaining momentum in Thailand, mostly thanks to the wider penetration of credit and debit cards, facilitating easier online payment. Ecommerce penetration is still low, sitting at under 11%. Online shopping sales were around USD 1 billion in 2014, growing at around 15%.

 

Thailand has a relatively high smartphone penetration rate at almost half the population. The preferred mobile operating system is Android with 45% of the market share.

 

The Thai ecommerce market is driven by consumer electronics. Online consumers are also growing more accustomed to cross-border ecommerce. The average share of online purchases from websites outside of Thailand has increased to 31.5% from 20%.

Siamese Thai is the lone official language of Thailand, spoken by over 80% of the population.
